Log Home Advantages |
|
Value
An appraisal of a log home can, in some cases, be up to
thirty percent higher than the building costs, resulting
in instant equity.
Efficiency
A log home's natural insulating factor provides up to six
times the insulating capacity of a brick of equal thickness.
Simply stated, a well-built log home is typically warm in
the winter and cool in the summer. In most cases, a log
home is between 15% and 30% more efficient than a
conventional home.
Safety
The size of the timbers used in log homes makes a fire
very unlikely. Studies show that it is 10 times harder to
burn a log home than a home built of lumber. They also
show that even cement had more damage from heat than
logs, due mainly to cracking.
Structure
A conventional structure needs all four exterior walls PLUS
some load-bearing interior partitions to support it. But a
log dwelling should be able to stand by itself, if need be,
with one entire side removed.
Maintenance
Log homes are nearly maintenance-free and more kid
proof.
Durability
Log homes have a long-established record of surviving
natural disasters in much better condition than timber
frame houses. Log walls tend to hold everything together
in times of storms or earthquakes.
Eco-Friendly
A log home usually meets the Department of Energy's
Energy Star standards. This means that the home is
30% more efficient than what is required by the
building codes.

Common Misconceptions |
|
Myth #1
Many people believe that a log home is more susceptible
to insect infestation. To the contrary, a log home is no
more vulnerable to insects than a conventional home.
Only with a log home, insects are much easier to detect.
Myth #2
Many people believe that a log home is more of a fire
hazard than a conventional home. This is not true! Just
light a match under an 8" log and time how long it takes
for the log to ignite. Then take another match to a pile
of drywall, insulation, wood studs and trim material and
see how log it takes to burst into flames.
Myth #3
Many people believe that a log home requires excessive
maintenance to protect them against the elements. The
truth is that log homes do require regular maintenance
to protect them from such things as decay, insects, sun
damage, etc., but this burden is no more or less taxing
than any other full wood or wood sided home.
Myth #4
Many people believe that a log home is hard to finance.
Fortunately, the increase in log home popularity over the
past 20 years has caused even mainstream lenders to
warm to the prospects of log home financing. As demand
for log homes continue to soar and myths such as these
are dispelled, even conservative lenders are realizing
that there is money to be made on log home financing.
Myth #5
Many people believe that a log home is cold and drafty.
This is a misconception that comes from many years
ago. Today's log homes are professionally engineered
and built to be energy efficient and draft-free.
Myth #6
Many people believe that it is difficult to find log home
builder. This is not true! We are here and ready to assist
